We have all heard people say we all have a purpose to fulfil on earth and that we have to find it at all costs.
And so when we think of those who have found their "purpose", we typically think of those who have made one sacrifice or the other and gone on to do extraordinary things in various fields.
This then leads to an assumption that everyone's purpose and ambition should be magnanimous or should be achievements that lay on top of an arbitrary hierarchical structure.
And if there are people at the top of various kinds of hierarchies of the world, whether it be tech, sports, fashion, medicine, or youtubing, then that naturally means we consider people to be in the middle and at the bottom, right? Fair enough.
Our question then to you today is that for those at the said "middle" or "bottom" of these arbitrary hierarchies of life, what does the idea of purpose and ambition mean for them?
Or do they not have that “kind” of purpose?
Maybe they lack ambition?
Or maybe where they are is where they are meant to be, and that’s fine?
What do we think about those who seem to live "meaningless" and “unimpactful lives?
And yes you might well say, “Wole and Tobi, people need more ambition, without it, purpose cannot be fulfilled".
Okay, let’s say that’s the case. At what point do we then account for the role opportunity, privilege, timing, nationality, and other factors play in people’s journeys towards such purpose? Factors that they had no part to play in.
Now many of you will draw on philosophical or religious standings to make sense of your reasons for existing on earth. And a few of you may think all of this talk is just meaningless, an unnecessary exercise in futility.
But maybe it’s worth taking a minute or more to try to untangle these sorts of ideas once in a while. You might learn a thing or two about why you do the things you do and what drives you each new day you’re presented with.
